Benefits of Rock Central :
- Only receive updates instead of the entire list of packages every time
- Very fast load times
- Significantly less data downloaded (a typical update will be ~5kb vs a few megabytes via Cydia/Icy)
- Much less battery consumption due to less data downloaded and processed
- Fast data lookup
- Ability to sort data quickly (enabling sort by Rating, Alphabetical, Release Date)
- Identify Apps as new vs updated
- Lighweight = less memory
- App Icons!!

Cydia was the first APT implementation on the iPhone. Because the number of available packages and sources were small, the native implementation worked well. Downloading the small package list, sorting it, and searching went smoothly. However, as the number of community apps on the jailbroken platform has increased exponentially, the default APT implementation has become cumbersome, and will continue to get worse.
Instead of processing each source's list of available packages directly on the phone, Rock Central downloads the list of packages (a few megabytes and growing daily) to its servers and simply sends the Rock App the small list of changes (a few kb).
